Evolution Korea

For a long time the Korean scientific community been hesitant to engage with the creationists in fear that it could increase the credibility of the movement. The silence is no longer a viable option.

The STR has been battling to remove content from textbooks that discuss evolution, such as the discovery of the feathered dinosaur Archaeopteryx as an ancestral bird's ancestor. However, this is just one aspect of the evolution of the developmental paradigm.

What is Evolution?

Evolution is a theory of science that explains changes in genetic characteristics over time. The theory is based on fact that living organisms adapt to their environment, which can cause variations in genes, or even entire genomes. Over time the changes could result in the emergence of new species. The most popular theory of evolution is natural selection, which explains the process that allows those with favorable characteristics live and reproduce more often than those with disadvantages. As time passes, this difference in reproduction could result in the creation of completely new species.

The term "evolution" is derived from the Latin word meaning unrolling or revealing, but the concept itself has had many different meanings since it took shape in the sciences and elsewhere. Early evolutionists like Erasmus Darwin (Charles’s grandfather) and Jean Baptiste de Lamarck believed that species were predestined to change into a new species. Etienne Geoffroy St-Hilaire was Lamarck's embryologist student who came up with the term "transmutation" to describe this idea. Charles Lyell, who published the second volume of his Principles of Geology in 1833, attacked this idea and borrowed the term "evolution" from Geoffroy's student to describe the idea that existing species change into other species in a gradual and 에볼루션 룰렛 predictable way.

Evolutionary biologists define evolution more recently as a process through which living things develop characteristics to improve their chances of survival or conceiving offspring. In time, genetic variation can cause a population to acquire new physical characteristics or 에볼루션 biological functions. The change in gene frequencies is known as natural selection and it is the main driver of evolutionary change. However other changes that are not genetic, such as the growth in muscle mass due to exercise or diet cannot be considered examples of evolution since they are not inherited by future generations.

Creationists make the argument that evolution is controversial in spite of the fact that it has been proven valid by a multitude of scientific tests and that it has stood the test of time. They argue that the theory should not be taught in schools. In South Korea, creationists won a few victories over evolution in textbooks for high school. This includes the removal of references about the evolutionary origins for humans as well as Archaeopteryx - a feathered dino which is believed to be the ancestor of birds.

Why is Evolution Important for Humanity?

Evolution explains the origins of Earth and all living species. It also serves as a basis of biology that helps scientists learn how living organisms function and develop. In South Korea, a group called the Society for Textbook Revise, an offshoot of the Korea Association for Creation Research (KAC) is a campaign for textbooks that cover the evolution of horses and their avian ancestor Archaeopteryx.

Although these are alarming developments, it is also important to remember that the evidence for evolution is overwhelming. The evidence comes from a diverse variety of sources, including fossils, genetic studies and the behavior of living organisms. The evidence is also independently verified by other scientists.

The majority of scientists believe in the theory of evolution. This belief is based on many different reasons. Scientists study evolution in order to make practical discoveries such as the development of new medicines and other treatments, while others use it to improve the lives of animals and plant species, typically to benefit humans. Some scientists are simply curious, whereas others have a strong religious belief in God.

What is Creationism?

Creationists believe that God created all things in the universe. They also believe that the Bible is the word of God and should be taken literally. Many creationists are Christians, but not all. Creationists generally fall in one of two categories: Young Earth creationists (YEC) and old earth creationists (OEC).

The YECs are perhaps the most well known type of creationist and they believe that God created the universe in the exact way described in the Bible. They believe that the biblical account of the six days of creation is literal, and that the universe and 에볼루션 코리아 the life on Earth began only recently.

OECs aren't as well-known, but their beliefs are just as intense as those of YECs. OECs believe that the universe and 에볼루션바카라 life on Earth are billions of years old and they believe that evolution is a myth.

Both kinds of creationism deny the idea that scientific principles like biogenesis and natural selection can explain how life started on Earth. They claim that evolution is inconceivable because it requires miracles. The founders of modern science shunned miracles because they feared they would lose their credibility.

Some creationists accept naturalistic evolution as well as special creation, and call their view "theistic evolution." This is also known as "continuous evolutionism" or the "evolution of species created." This theory states that God creates species from scratch and then allows them to change over time. Then these evolutionary changes will produce new species that are like the original ones.

Some creationists believe that God created all living things and the universe in a single event known as the Great Flood. Creationists believe that the first species were created simultaneously, and that they grew slowly afterward. They deny the notion of abiogenesis and assert that self-replicating life cannot arise from nonliving matter.

In general, the creationists oppose teaching evolution in schools. This is a position that is backed by a myriad of professional associations which include the National Science Teachers Association, the Association for Science Teacher Education and the American Anthropological Association, and the Geological Society of America. However, some academic institutions and scientists are more flexible, and allow the inclusion of both evolution and creationism in their curricula.

What is Creationism in Korea?

When people think of creationism, many of them think of the United States. However, South Korea is also home to an anti-evolutionist movement. The publishers of textbooks for high school students have recently announced that they will eliminate references to evolution from their editions. The Society for Textbook Revise, an independent body which is an offshoot from the Korea Association for Creation Research (KACCR), has led this campaign. STR has secured its first victory by eliminating examples of the evolution of the horse and an avian ancestor, the Archeopteryx in textbooks. The next goal is to take out portions of Darwin's notorious finch-research as well as on human evolution.

STR claims that it has the support of 4000 families and individuals. Its mission is to cut out what it sees as the "atheist materialism" that paints an unhopeful worldview for students. It also seeks to counter the influence of American creationists in the country. A survey of biology students teachers revealed that around half do not believe in evolution. The reasons for this are not clear however, they could be related to religious beliefs and the lack of full-time creation scientists across the country.

The KACR has accomplished a lot in the past through lectures and seminar events. It also publishes a bimonthly magazine called Creation and the book. One of them is a textbook on the natural sciences, with an orthodox creationist perspective, which sparked interest in college communities. In 1991, a professor together with a minister began teaching Creation Science at one university. It is still taught in the present.

On August 6 and 7, 1993, KACR hosted a second International Symposium on Creation Research. The event was held in conjunction with the opening of the World Expo in Daejeon. Six lecturers from around the world including ICR's John Morris, Duane Gish and Steven Austin spoke to audiences of several thousand. KACR members and KACR have also given lectures on the subject of creation science at major seminaries. KACR plans to create a Creation Science Education Center in the near future.
