The Best Robot Hoover

Both the Q5 as well as the Q7 Max Series get very good scores in our tests on floors that are bare and are particularly effective in removing pet hair. However, they have some flaws that prevent them from being our top choice. For instance, the Q5's navigation system doesn't include AI-powered obstacle avoidance and is therefore prone to get caught up in socks and shoes and couldn't navigate tightly packed rooms very well in our tests. It also doesn't have a camera that can see around corners.

It's still a good deal, especially if your office or home has lots of unfinished floors and you're looking to save money. It's also quiet and operates when you're at work or school. The only thing it's missing that you can't find in the pricier iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on bare floors. It's also less effective at mopping, as it relies on disposable wet wipes that don't stay on for long and don't handle dried-on debris. The Q5 is self-emptying cradle, however. If you need to, the mopping pad can be replaced with one that is wet in just a few just a few seconds.

2. IRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact elegant vacuum cleaner that can also sweep floors. Its smart cleaning maps and quick navigation make it easy to clean and effective in dealing with larger particles such as pet hair. It also comes with a self-emptying dustbin with powerful suction and support for virtual boundaries. It's the most efficient robot hoover for carpets, but it lags behind some competitors in deep cleaning.

This top-performing mop and vacuum combination utilizes advanced sensors to dodge obstacles and pet waste, and it learns the layout of your home over time to provide more efficient cleaning. You can change its cleaning schedule and set up zones with the well-designed app. It has a battery lifespan that is similar to other models.

If the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted area, you can instruct it to pull back and extend its mop. This helps prevent cross-contamination. Its flex arm is also great for getting under low-lying furniture and along baseboards. However, it doesn't have the same washboard performance as our other Editors' Choice picks, the Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo N8 Professional+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.

During testing during testing, the X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop in the market to clean the entire house with 66 percent of its battery left. It did a good cleaning job on a variety of flooring and rooms with different flooring types including some area rugs. Its obstacle detection was great and it was able to avoid fake dog turds and socks, shoes and bundles cables.

It's a bit more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but it has superior suction and an onboard bin that automatically empty into the base. It also supports voice commands via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can clean the floor even after it vacuums. This is something we haven't seen in other robotic vacuum/mop combos.

3. Roomba X40 from iRobot

With an elegant circular design that appears more like a normal Roomba than the competitors' boxes this robot vacuum and mop combo is one of the most appealing looking in our evaluations. iRobot’s latest flagship model is also its smartest. It comes with advanced features like Enhanced Dirt Detection as well as future compatibility (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads autonomously).

It's the only robot vacuum/mop that has a perfect 10 in our evaluations due to a mix of high-tech sensors that include cameras, a structured light system, and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot vacuum cleaner best we tested that could refill and empty its basestation in a self-contained manner. It also boasted an industry-leading suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mops.

The X40 as with other iRobot products, is easy to operate. It comes with an intuitive mobile application interface, and it is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only real drawback is that it's an eerily noisy device, which can be problematic if you run it in the morning prior to work or at night as you attempt to sleep.

It's also a bit expensive but not as expensive as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or Roborock S8 Omni, which are both equally powerful and more attractive. This is a two-in-one vacuum that's very capable however it's going to cost you more and produce more noise.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the high-end robot mop and vacuum. It comes with a variety of advanced features that make you forget about your chores. Similar to Ecovacs' range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-free cleaning machine that can take care of both vacuuming and mopping, with a multifunction dock that automatically empties the vacuum's trash bin, refills its water tank, and cleans and dry its mop pads.

The smart robot makes use of LIDAR and structured lighting to draw out floor plans and spot obstacles. It can navigate more efficiently than its top competitors. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time hazard detection however, it wasn't foolproof in our testing and was occasionally confused by power cords or other obstructions.
