Path of Exile Item Upgrades

Best item upgrader upgrades (blog) are a common and important way to improve the performance of a variety of items in Path of Exile. They can cause additional damage, AD or even affixes.

Rare-grade equipment can be superior to modernized Common or Magic gear due to their high demands.

Armor

Armor upgrades are a form of upgrade that can be applied to weapon and armor items. They boost the performance of the item they are connected to. Armor upgrades are available in the world of games and purchased from Blacksmiths on bonfires. Alternatively, they can also be salvaged from items that have upgrade components inside them, with a professional or higher salvage kit.

The level of an armor's or weapon's upgrade determines the amount of damage it will take on. The damage absorption of an item of armor will increase as it is upgraded to the maximum upgrade level. However, it's important note that this will also increase its weight, causing it to be heavier than before.

There are a few different types of armor upgrades that are available in the game and each one has distinct effects. Certain upgrades give armor an extra number of health points, while others make it lighter and more powerful. The name of the upgrade will tell you the kind of upgrade the item can be given, as illustrated below.

Certain upgrades require magic or a combination of technology and magic, as shown by the "Magic" and "Hybrids" entries in the table. Certain upgrades also require fees to use. These are identified as "Charges" entries in the table. These charges are either constantly updated or never expire based on the upgrade.

The cheapest way to upgrade armor is with Iron Ore, which can be obtained through exploring the surroundings and looting chests of minor loot. Titanium is more expensive, however, it is available at the smelters in Orgrimmar and Stormwind City. Some upgrades, like the Reforge or the Hot Potato Books can only be used on high-level armor pieces. These upgrades can provide significant improvements in stats and are worth the cost.

Weapons

Weapon upgrades give players to enhance certain aspects of their weapon. Upgrades can improve the accuracy of a rifle, or the damage that shotgun shells cause. Certain firearms have enhancements to enhance their intrinsic qualities. All tiers of jewels are crafted at the Jeweler however, there are some exceptions to this, such as the rare and legendary gems that require you to be at a sufficient level to qualify for them. Unlike other upgrade components, jewels can be swapped with another jewel of the same type without damaging it. You are able to replace the jewel once within an item upgrader kit of equipment.

Using more jewels in a movement will make it more smooth, and is often used to enhance the aesthetics of the movement. Jewels also enhance performance and create a surface harder than steel so that repeated friction caused by pivots does not damage them.

In addition to the upgrades mentioned above players can also obtain glyphs for their weapons and shields from a Glyphmaster. These glyphs offer a small boost and can be traded, but they're not guaranteed to appear as loot. Glyphs can be upgraded, like jewelry, at the Jeweler for gold and scattered Crystal. Glyphs can also be taken out and returned to the inventory. Other upgrade components, such as traits or aegis can't be swapped, and can only be found by using an Upgrade extractor, or salvaging with a Black Lion Salvage Kit or Ascended Salvage.

Trinkets

Trinkets are small pieces of equipment that provide a wide range of small but useful advantages to your hero. They can be obtained in the areas of starting as loot, personal story rewards, from vendors, or by performing road interactions. They can also be made by jewelers, and then found or purchased from the Trading Post.

The first trinkets that a player can unlock is the cloak, which grants a small, but valuable boost to movement speed and evasion. The player can then acquire necklaces, rings, and amulets in a similar manner as they did with weapons and armor. Each piece of gear comes with one upgrade slot that accepts either a universal or jewel upgrade. Universal upgrades provide smaller bonuses and can be placed in any kind of equipment while jewelry cannot be replaced or upgraded, and is only compatible with certain types of trinkets.

These trinkets also provide additional buffs and skills that remain active whenever the hero is not in combat. This allows the hero to perform better when they are not active and also helps to compensate for the absence of a strong team or any talent tree slots which would normally be filled with hero's ideal stats.

A good guideline for trinket upgrades is to prioritize BiS (Best item upgrader-in-Slot) items that you aren't planning to replace soon, followed by items with desirable stats but less important than the iLevel of the item upgrader to be upgraded. This is particularly true if an item upgrader mod has multiple stats you'd like to upgrade as it's often more beneficial to upgrade one crucial stat than two subpar ones.

In the beginning of the game, junglers will usually want to upgrade their yellow trinket to a red, while top and mid players typically choose a green or pink ward (depending on the game's matchup). These choices can affect a hero's ability to control the map.

In addition to the items mentioned above, players will also find other trinkets in the form trophies and rewards throughout the game. These can be earned by completing certain milestones within the story, such as completing a chapter's main quest or killing a certain boss. They can be viewed by selecting the appropriate achievement in the reward tab of the hero menu.
