Guild Wars 2 Item Upgrade

The stats of an item can be improved by upgrading it, also referred to as "upping". Each upgrade increment gives an increase in linearity of a given stat.

Players can recycle up to six items at a time to gain an indicator of the level of the item's upgraded components. The cost of recycling a piece of equipment increases depending on their rarity and level.

Upgrade components

In Guild Wars 2, an upgrade of an item can be a method to increase the stats of your weapon and armor. Glyphs

This is the maximum value that the glyph can increase a stat's value by and not the amount it actually improves it by. The actual value of the glyph is determined by the tier and quality of the product you are enchanting it to.

Most upgrade components inserted into items are not able to be replaced or salvaged without removing the gear in question, except for legendary equipment and upgrades. If you do have a non-useful rune or glyph that hasn't yet been applied to your gear, you can move it to another piece of equipment by using the Upgrade Glyphs context menu in the Glyphs panel. This will create an Glyph Set that includes the chosen glyph.

If you are looking to remove the glyph from an item upgrader mod then you'll need to salvage it with an Black Lion Salvage Kit or Ascended Salvage Tool. This will cause the item to be destroyed that it was installed in however, you can salvage the upgraded item by using the glyph and its fragments, so this should not be considered a loss.
