What is a bedside cot?

A bedside crib, also known as a bassinet, or co-sleeper is a baby cot attached to your adult bed. This allows your child to sleep with you in a safe environment. This is a form of safe co-sleeping that does not increase the risk of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) like bedsharing, and can help you build a bond with your newborn.

It also comes with an upper bar that can be easily lowered to accommodate feedings at night without having to fiddle with zips.

Anna discovered that the CoZee could provide a safe, comfortable place to sleep for her baby. The Iora is a smaller bedside cot that can fold flat. It also comes with a travel bag which allows it to be taken anywhere. It was easy to move from room to room, and our mum testers believed it was the perfect size for a bedside crib co sleeper crib. They also loved the large storage basket, perfect for storing spare bedding or nappies.

This is a great choice for parents looking to sleep in a co-sleeping arrangement but don't wish to share their beds or whose partner may have mobility issues, like back problems or arthritis. Our mums who tested it loved the ease with which they could access their baby while in the Iora and that it had an option to have a reflux incline which helped reduce gas.

Our moms are thrilled that the mattress adheres to NICE guidelines. They recommend placing the infant in the Moses basket or crib on its own without blankets, toys, pillows etc. They also claim that the mattress is firm and comfortable for babies and is easy to find sheets for. It isn't as light as the other smaller bedside cribs, though, so if you want something lighter and more portable, consider one of the other options on our list.
