WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades provide a guaranteed boost to certain stats. Each upgrade increases the level of an item by +3. Each upgrade also boosts the random substatus.

Upgraded gear is generally more useful, unless the item has a low requirement by nature (like FB sorc shields) or has a large variance in stats (like Eth Titan weapons). Upgrades aren't as important for the latter due to the requirement to roll an exact version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader lets players upgrade their gear by giving the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any kind of armor or weapon. The item used to upgrade the item will be consumed and cannot be used again. Upgrades can be used to create Enchantments.

The upgrader is located in all major cities, and is accessible at any time to upgrade your gear. It is recommended to visit the upgrader every few weeks to ensure that your equipment is up-to-date.

Upgrades can cost more based on the item level, however, they are always cheaper than buying new equipment. For example upgrading a Benthic chest piece to 385 ilvl will cost 20 recycle points, while purchasing the same item from another player will cost 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used to upgrade tools, armor, weapon and accessory upgrades. They can be purchased from NPCs of item upgraders for a variety of currencies. They are also available on random treasure lists. Once an upgrade is purchased, it can be used on any weapon or tool with a button, which will display a preview of the item upgrade when it is upgraded when the player has enough materials.

The upgrade cost depends on the item Level upgrade slot and the current item level as well as the level of the weapon, which is more than gloves or bracers, for instance. Each upgrade costs 15 Flightstones and a variety of crests, with certain upgrades offering discounts to reduce the cost of the Flightstones or the crests used. After an item has been upgraded to a certain amount it is able to be degraded and sold back to the upgrader for a lower amount of the two currency types.

Many locations offer item upgraders, including the main Island and a few outposts. The NPCs provide both an upgrade discount as well as a chance to acquire a new upgrade recipe. The upgrade discount increases with the number of items being upgraded, and can be increased by requiring players to complete specific achievements or quests.

The amount of Valorstones required for upgrades is reduced, and the discount is affixed to all accounts. The amount of Harbinger Crests required for upgrades is reduced also, but is only available once certain milestones are achieved.

Crests

When upgrading equipment in WoW, players have a variety of options. Flightstones are a currency that is available to everyone who wants to upgrade. Crests are more specific and are used for specific item level upgrades. Crests are an integral element of the Dragonflight Gear Progression System that was introduced in version 10.1. They come in four ranks.

The first thing to be aware of is that crests are only able to be used to purchase gear of a specific rank, and that each rank has its own requirements for upgrading. The simplest and most straightforward upgrade route costs 15 crests while the most complicated requires as many as 20 crests depending on the type of gear that is being upgraded.

Players can obtain crests by completing content of the appropriate level, whether that involves walking around and performing outdoor activities to get lower-tier gear, dungeons or raids of all difficulty for items of higher tier or Mythic+ heroic raid bosses or dungeons for gear that is used in the endgame. These crests are then exchanged with an upgrader like Cuzolth or Vaskarn in Valdrakken for the appropriate upgrade steps and pathways.

The new currency system isn't complicated to use, but it will bring some modifications to the upgrade item process. For example, once an item is at the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic) it won't need Flightstones to be upgraded. This allows players to upgrade their gear to the highest possible level for all their characters instead of relying on seasonal loot.

It's also important to use crests with care, since they have only one purpose. It's best to use your Whelpling-rank Crests on the highest-quality gear you can find and keep Drake and Wyrm Crests to be used for the next set of upgrades. This is particularly applicable to items like rings and trinkets that occupy several slots. The discount on the account is only applicable when all the slots on the character are filled with top-quality equipment.
