WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades give a guaranteed boost to specific stats. Each upgrade increases the level of an item upgrader mod by 3. Each upgrade also increases an unspecified substat.

Upgraded gear is generally more useful, unless the item is not required by nature (like FB sorc shields) or has a large variance in stats (like Eth Titan weapons). The latter are less valuable from upgrading due to the need to roll for a perfect model.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader allows players to upgrade gear to a higher level by supplying the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be applied on any kind of weapon or armor. The item used to upgrade the item will be consumed and cannot be used again. Upgrades can be applied to Enchantments.

You can upgrade your equipment at any time by visiting the upgrader in any major city. It is recommended to visit the upgrader once every few weeks to keep your equipment up to date.

Upgrades will cost more, based on the level of the item, but they will always be cheaper than buying new equipment. For example, upgrading a Benthic chest piece to ilvl 385 will cost 20 recycle points while purchasing the same item upgrader mod from a different player will cost 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used for tools, armor, weapon and accessory upgrades. They are purchased by players from item upgrader NPCs in exchange for a variety of currencies, and can also be found in random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade can be applied to any tool, weapon, or armor. button, which will display an image of the item at the next upgrade level if the player has sufficient materials.

The upgrade cost depends on the item upgrading slot and current item upgrade level, with weapons costing more than gloves or bracers for example. Each upgrade costs 15 Flightstones and a variety of crests, with some upgrades offering discounts to reduce the cost of Flightstones or the crests used. After an item has been upgraded to a certain amount and is degraded, it can be sold and returned to the upgrader for a lower amount of both currencies.

Item upgraders can be found at many locations on the main island as well as some outposts. The NPCs provide an upgrade discount and a chance to obtain a new upgrade recipe. The discount for upgrading increases as more items are upgraded. It can be increased if players complete certain achievements or complete quests.

Contrary to Cromwell in Baldur's Gate II there is no item upgrader available at the start of Icewind Dale. Instead, the NPCs that are available to help with upgrades require several methods which is both an improvement as well as a disadvantage.

In Season 3, the upgrade system was altered a bit, with several new features added. After the player has upgraded to a specific level for an armor slot, upgrading other items to the same item level upgrade level, will cost less. This is true regardless of whether the items are from a different set of gear.

The amount of Valorstones needed for upgrades is reduced, and the discount is affixed to all accounts. The amount of Harbinger Crests required to upgrade is cut also, but is only available after certain milestones have been reached.

Crests

Players have a variety of options for upgrading their equipment in WoW. They can choose to use Flightstones which are a common upgrade currency that is accessible to everyone players, or crests, which are more specialized and are used to upgrade specific levels of items. Crests are a key element of the Dragonflight gear progression system, which was introduced in 10.1 and are available in four ranks.

First, you must be aware that the crests can only be purchased for equipment that is that is of a particular rank. Each rank comes with an upgrade path that is different. The simplest and most straightforward upgrade route costs 15 crests while the most complicated requires as many as 20 crests, based on the type of gear that is being upgraded.

Players can earn crests through completing content of the appropriate level, whether that means walking around and doing outdoor activities for lower-tier gear, raids or dungeons of all difficulties for higher-tier items, or Mythic+ dungeons or heroic raid bosses for gear that is used in the endgame. The crests can then be exchanged with an item upgrader such as Cuzolth or Vaskarn in Valdrakken to upgrade the item in the proper steps and pathways.

Using these new currencies isn't that difficult, but the system will introduce a few changes to the overall upgrade process. For instance, when a piece of equipment reaches the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic) it won't need Flightstones to be upgraded. This change lets players upgrade their gear to the highest possible ilvl on all of their characters rather than relying on seasonal loot.

It's also essential to use crests in a wise manner, as they have only one purpose. For instance, it's a good idea to use all of your Whelpling-rank crests with the best equipment you have, and then save Drake and Wyrm crests to use for the next set of upgrades you plan to create. This is especially true for items such as trinkets and rings that take up multiple slots. The discount on the account will only be applicable if all slots on the character are filled with top-quality gear.
