Upgrades give you boost in specific statistics. Each upgrade increases item level by 3. Each upgrade also increases the random substatus.

Upgrades are items which can be used to level up weapons, tools, armor, and other items. They can be purchased from item upgraders NPCs in a variety of currencies. They are also available on random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade items is able to be applied to any weapon, tool, or armor. The button will display the item's next level of upgrade, when there are enough materials.

Upgrade costs vary depending on the slot for the item and the current item level. For instance weapons cost more than bracers, or gloves. Each upgrade cost 15 Flightstones and a number of crests, with some upgrades having a discount to lower the cost of Flightstones or crests that are used. Once an item has been upgraded to a certain amount, it can be downgraded and sold to the upgrader at a lower cost.

Upgraders for items are available at many locations on the main island, as well as a few outposts. The NPCs offer both an upgrade coupon and a possibility of obtaining a new recipe. The discount on upgrades increases according to the number of items that are being upgraded. It can also be increased by requiring players to complete specific achievements or complete quests.

For instance, when an item reaches the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic) it won't need Flightstones to be upgraded. This allows players to upgrade their gear to the highest level possible on all of their characters, instead of relying on seasonal loot.

It's also important to use crests in a wise manner, as they only have one use.
