How to Replace an audi spare key replacement G28 Engine Speed Sensor

In this video Charles the Humble Mechanic demonstrates how to replace the G28 engine speed sensor. The sensor is located near the transmission's edge, above the flywheel gear. It transmits a signal the ECU via an uncolored wire (T55/49) which is then sent to the tachometer located in the instrument cluster.

1. Engine Speed Sensor

It is located on the outside of the transmission just above the flywheel ring gear the G28 Engine Speed Sensor sends an electrical signal to ECU pin T55/49 using a grey wire. The ECU utilizes this information to regulate boost and fuel. It also sends an indication to the G5 tachometer in the instrument cluster.

The sensor serves as a reference for comparing with the G40 Camshaft Position Sensor. The ecu needs to be aware of when the crankshaft has reached TDC, and the location of the camshaft to trigger the spark and injectors.

If this sensor fails the ECU will throw a P00160 code which means the Crank Shaft and Intake Camshaft aren't in sync and possibly indicating the chain stretching or a jump link on the upper timing chain. However the code will not appear on its own without additional information from other sensors (G4 and G40).

Testing can be a bit difficult as there are two different pins for the connector and they perform different functions but the best way to test it is to measure resistance between the sensor and the ECU. It should read around 1000 ohms when the sensor is operating at its maximum. Check for signs of coolant, or oil in the connector bay if you are experiencing issues with this part.

2. Injectors

Yesterday, when accelerating from highway paytoll at maximum speed I noticed a massive reduction in power. It was like the engine was running out of gas. Or, my injectors were not firing. Today, i pulled out the spark plugs. Three were drenched in gazoline, the fourth one was dry. When i crank the engine with no sparks i put tissue on the top of each hole in the injector, the 3 drenched with gazoline leap out, however the 4th one stays shut. I tried to test the ground connections of ECU pins 14,30, and 48/55. I got 0ohm. Therefore, i think the issue is somewhere else.

I also tried to reset the PID but with no luck. The car will start when the G28 is disconnected, Audi Key Shell - Www.Scdmtj.Com - but it runs fine with the G28 plugged in. However the intermittent misfire issue continues to occur at higher RPM. The temperature sensor for coolant (G62) shows the wrong temperature value of -49c even when i unplug it. I also noticed that the oil gauge in the cockpit shows 2 bar while the actual pressure is 0.

I don't know what to do. I believe that I've all other possibilities out. But i'm worried that i might have missed something. If anyone has any suggestions, please chime in! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump in the g28 can be activated by a signal by the RPM sensor. The GM-style sender is the same as the G4 and both are used in the 80, 100, 200, UrS and RS2 cars so you can easily find one at a wrecking yard or in a local parts store. Test them out by putting your DMM in resistance mode and take measurements between pins 1 (with the bump on the connector's end up) and 2 (2nd from the left on the black connector's end). They must be infinite Ohms.

4. ECU

The ECU of our 20vt turbo (3B AAN ABY ADU) engines needs to know both the position and speed of the crankshaft to determine timing of the fuel injector, etc. It uses a Crank Position Sensor G4 and an Engine Speed Sensor G28 to accomplish this. If either of these go badly, you will see codes on the diagnostic scanner that could cause engine shut down.

The signs of a malfunctioning G28 sensor are an inaccurate rev counter for the gearbox the gears are shifting faster than normal and/or a misfire when you are in gear. It is possible that the sensor is failing and needs to be replaced if you experience any of these signs. The good news is that they are quite affordable and readily available, especially when you're looking at the Bosch sensor, which is what we have. Alternatively, GM's version of this part is an option.

5. Tachometer

A failing engine speed sensor could be the reason behind many issues in your car. It's an essential component of the Audi Key replacement cost Uk's transmission since it relays information to the ECU about how the car's crankshaft is rotating. When this sensor fails, it could cause problems for the transmission as well as the other car's components.

The G5 engine speed sensor is located at the outside of the transmission, above the flywheel ring gear. It transmits a signal to the ECU at pin T55/49 via an uncolored wire. The ECU uses this signal to control the flow of fuel and boost as well as timig. It also sends it to the G5 Tachometer in instrument cluster. You can test for sensor failure by examining the continuity from the sensor to the tachometer. Also, you can examine the continuity between pins T55/49 of the ECU and pin T6a/1 of the instrument cluster (trace [79]) and between pin T6a/1 and pin T26a/12. It should show approximately 1000 ohms resistance between those two pins. This part is common across the audi car key replacement 80-100-200-RS2 range, from the 1985 MC up to the 1997 UrS AN and the 1995 RS2 Du You may also find good ones in wrecking yards.Nissan-New.png
