1. Engine Speed Sensor

Located on the edge of the transmission, above the flywheel ring gear the G28 Engine Speed Sensor sends a signal to ECU pin T55/49 through an uncolored wire. The ECU utilizes this information to regulate the amount of fuel and boost. It also sends an indicator to the G5 Tachometer within the instrument cluster.

The sensor is used as a reference to correlate with the G40 Camshaft Position Sensor. The ecu has to know when the crankshaft reached TDC, and the location of the camshaft so that it can activate the spark and injectors.

If this sensor fails when it fails, the ECU will display a P00160 error message. This means that the Crank Shaft is not in line with the Intake Camshaft. It could also indicate an issue with the chain or a jump in the chain link of the upper timing chain. However, the code won't be displayed on its own without additional information from other sensors (G4 and G40).

Testing is a bit challenging since there are two connector pins, and they serve different purposes but the best way to test it is to measure resistance between the sensor and the ECU. It should read about 1000 ohms if the sensor is at full operation. If you are having problems with this part, check for signs of oil or coolant in the connector bay.

2. Injectors

Yesterday, while accelerating at full speed from the highway paytoll, i experienced a big cut in power like the engine is running out of gas or injectors are not firing at all. I pulled out the spark plugs this morning, 3 were soaked in gasoline, and the 4th was dry. I put a piece of tissue over each hole in the injector and when i turn the engine on without sparks, the ones that have gazoline pop right out. The 4th one stays shut. I inspected the ground connection on ECU pins 14/55, 30/55 and 48/55. I got zero Ohm. I'm assuming that the issue is elsewhere.

I also tried to reset PID but without success. The car is able to start when the G28 is not plugged in and runs fine when it is plugged in, but still is experiencing intermittent misfires at higher RPM. The coolant temperature sensor (G62) shows the wrong temp value -49c, even if I unplug it. I also noticed that the oil gauge in the cockpit shows 2 bars when the actual pressure is zero.

I'm not sure what to do, i believe that i've ruled out everything else. I'm worried that i might have missed something. If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump in the g28 receives signals from the RPM sensor.
