UPVC Replacement Door Handles

The handles on your doors get worn out over time and will need to be replaced. It is essential to be able to match the dimensions of the old upvc window handles handles when replacing them.

The uPVC/Composite door handles are constructed of durable materials and are perfect for multi-point lock doors which require a robust design. The handles are inline and operate with the same spindle as well as screw fixings, so they are easily installed on new or existing uPVC/Composite doors.

The handle can be adjusted and angled to accommodate all users. The handle has been tested for endurance up to 200,000 cycles, which helps to ensure the quality of the finish and performance of the handle over time. The sprung lever can be shortened to fit more locks. This is particularly useful for narrower door frames where the cylinder is further back. A shorter lever is an excellent option for doors where the latch could be opened by a thumb turn on the inside.

Lever Pad

The lever pad upvc handle is distinct from the lever handles that are found on most doors. These handles are operated by a single spindle or by two spindles, inline or offset. They are typically employed on UPVC doors with double glazing and come in a variety of finishes and variations.

The handles have been tested to at least 200k cycles and are available in a variety of finishes including White, Silver, Chrome & Gold. The finish is compliant with BS EN 1670:2007 Grade 5 and is also resistant to corrosion, giving the handle a high degree of durability and performance for its intended use.

All of the UPVC handle lever pad styles are supplied with the spindle and screws, allowing them to be fitted on an existing or new uPVC door. The 211mm backplate fixing centres allow for a wider handle, which can often be a benefit when replacing a faulty or worn multi-point door lock mechanism. The levers for these handles have a spring, which solves the problem of door handles that move out of their horizontal position when not being used.

It is crucial to match the PZ dimensions of both the multipoint lock and the uPVC doors when selecting the replacement UPVC spindle and handle. This measurement may also be called 'handle centres or cylinder centre'. It is important to match the right handles.

Once you have the correct PZ size, you'll need to ensure that the lever pads and push pads are of a suitable shape to fit the American with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant handles that you need for your doors. These are typically round or square, with an internal lever, and an external push pad.

Most of the UPVC lever pads we offer are sprung, which means that they return to their horizontal position after not being used, instead of hanging out and potentially sticking in the frame. This stops draughts from entering the building. You will also find that the majority of UPVC lever pad handles are handed, allowing you to install them on either side of the door.

Euro Cylinder

Cylinder locks are typically found on uPVC doors, but they can also be used on other types of doors. Cylinder locks are operated with a key that unlocks the cylinder's case. This exposes pins that can be aligned with those inside the lock and allow them to turn the revolving camera, thereby opening the door. Euro cylinders can be fitted with up to six pins. Doors that are internal and external require different levels of security.

The selection of a cylinder is crucial. It depends on the type of use your doors and handles receive. External doors, for instance, should be fitted with higher security cylinders while doors inside can be secured with the standard cylinder. Additionally, certain cylinders are available with extra features which can enhance security, for instance anti-drill or anti-bump properties.

A euro cylinder must be measured accurately to ensure it is the correct size for your door. The cylinder should be measured from the central screw hole to the ends of the cylinder. This includes the thumb turn if there is one. It is best to do this with the lock in place however, when this isn't possible, you can remove it to measure. A cylinder that is protruding beyond the handle and escutcheon might be vulnerable to attacks, such as snapping locks, therefore it is important that it's not too long.

The design of most newer cylinders has anti-drilling and bump resistance features. These features are designed to minimize the chances of an attack by forcing the cylinder to rotate in an opposite direction. This can to deflect attacks and ensure your door is secure.

Some cylinders are designed to resist snapping. This is a common occurrence on cylinders. A special tool is used to break the break line of the lock, and then the front of cylinder is snapped off. This is faster and more straightforward than gaining access through multipoint locks. It also leaves no evidence of a break-in which can hinder the insurance claim.

Spring Cassette

This spring cassette sits inside the base of your door handle's backplate providing a sprung solution to return your multipoint lock handles to their original position after use. Previously a lot of these types of handle didn't have a spring built into them, and as a result, they are more likely to slide or drop once the locking mechanism has been disengaged. This simple part is the best solution to fix this problem. It also prevents your upvc door from becoming stuck in either the open or closed position, as they are difficult to close manually.

These spring cassettes were created to be used with sprung multipoint locks. They are not compatible with unsprung handles and you'll have to cut a hole into your backplate for them to fit. (Please see the image for a detailed diagram). They are a replacement for broken or missing cassettes within the backplates of door handles of numerous brands of uPVC doors. They are supplied in a single unit. They come with a square cut out that is able to accommodate an 8mm shaft.
